The architect Antonio Gaudi was born in Reus.
Reus is a very small town in eastern Spain, known primarily for being the birthplace of one of the most famous Spaniards - the greatest architect Antonio Gaudi. Although it is not known whether he was born in this city or in neighboring Ryudems, the residents deny any doubts, because thanks Gaudi thousands of tourists come to Reus.
Reus is known as the center of modernity in Catalonia and every guest must simply take a walk along the so-called "modern route" - La Ruta del Modernizmo, which leads through the most interesting street of Reus. It starts with the Plaza del Canal, near the bus stop, and then follows in the historic part of the city. The route includes the famous Casa Navas - a mansion built by another famous Catalan architect, Luis Domenech-i-Montaner. The path also leads past the gothic church of St. Peter - the main temple of the city. His belfry, 60 meters high, was so impressed by Antonio Gaudi that he borrowed some elements of his design for the most grandiose project of his life, the Sagrada Familia. In Reus itself, there is not a single building based on the idea of Gaudi, but in honor of this, a large museum complex has recently been built in the city, in the form of an exciting interactive game to find all the secrets of the great genius of architecture.
However, architecture is not just because of what it takes to come to Reus. There are quite a few festivals every year. Most of them are devoted to all sorts of saints and residents, and all Spaniards are very respectful to the Church, so they celebrated the holidays in a big way. So the main activity on the day of St. Peter and the Festival of Our Lady of Mercy, or as it is called by the locals, is Misericordia. The latter takes a week in which arranged holiday parades, concerts, parades, exhibitions and readings.
Furthermore, Reus offers excellent alcoholic beverages - local wines and brandies are also very popular outside of Spain.
